Objectives: To analyze the effects of a multidisciplinary program for obesity treatment (MPOT) on cardiometabolic risk and health-related physical fitness (HRPF) in women with severe obesity.
Materials and Methods: Participated in this pragmatic clinical trial 12 women of a MPOT of 24 weeks with practice of physical exercises, guidance of physical education, nutrition and psychology.
Results: There was a significant improvement in all anthropometric parameters, body composition, AFRS and triglyceride levels (p <0.05) in the sample after 24 weeks of multidisciplinary intervention. There were no differences in hemodynamic parameters, fasting glucose and HDL cholesterol (p> 0.05).
Conclusion: The sample had an initial profile of cardiometabolic risk and of HRPF quite compromised. The results show that a MPOT, based on the usual therapy for obesity (physical exercise, nutritional guidance and psychological support), was effective in improving HRPF, and, consequently, minimizing the cardiometabolic risk in women with severe obesity.
