Objective: Identify motor interventions that have been used in controlled and randomized clinical trials about functionality of children with cerebral palsy.
Material and Methods: This is an integrative literature review. The databases used were: Medline, Scopus, Web of Science and PeDRO; and the CINAHL electronic library (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature). The SPIDER strategy was followed; and the terms used in the searches referred to: “sample”, “phenomena of interest”, “design”, “evaluation of the phenomenon” and “type of research”.
Results: Nine controlled and randomized clinical trials published between 2015 and 2019 were found. The use of interactive virtual games was the most adopted intervention and the domains most evaluated included gait, gross motor function, social participation, self-care, mobility, and balance. And the most used instruments were: Gross Motor Function Measure, Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory and the 6-minute Walk Test.
Conclusion: A variety of motor interventions have been applied to this population, and the use of virtual games are among the most used as adjuvants in treatments. In view of the treatment options, it is essential that professionals opt for safe and effective evidence-based interventions that will help children reach their maximum individual potential.
