Envy in Public Organizations: introductory reflections

This paper aimed to reflect on the feeling of envy in the universe of public administration. The discussions dealt about how envy can be understood by public managers in a management perspective, specifically about its causes and consequences in the organizational field. It is noticed that the impacts of envy can affect the effectiveness of public institutions, and at the same time, it can be an element of human behavior monitored and analyzed by the managers. It is noted that the sentiment in the screen is treated in the sphere of psychology and in the context of private organizations, the approaching with the characteristics of public organizations is still incipient, however necessary, since like other human feelings, the envy is inherent to their human relations and organizational. It is concluded that works should emerge that bring together relations among the consequences of envy at work of public organizations and their management possibilities, being this a path to improving practices of people management.Downloads
