Abstract

The objective of this article is to analyze the socialeconomic development in Porto Alegre in the period of 1991-2007. The applied methodology was the bibliographic revision and the analysis of the indexes IDESE and IMP. Among the main results there is the finding of the difference in the development among the areas of Porto Alegre; the finding that the health and sanitation indexes have presented figures below to the other analyzed indexes; and that the political participation of the inhabitants of the municipality have presented low results.

Angélica Massuquetti, Professora do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Economia (PPGE) da Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS).

Possui doutorado em Desenvolvimento, Agricultura e Sociedade pela Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro (2008) e fez Estágio de Doutorando na Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales - França (2003/2004). Possui mestrado em Economia Rural (1998) e graduação em Ciências Econômicas (1994) pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. Atualmente é professora e pesquisadora do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Economia (PPGE) da UNISINOS. Tem experiência na área de Economia, com ênfase em Economia Agrária, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: política agrícola internacional, economia regional, desenvolvimento rural, modernização e inovação agrícola, sistemas agroalimentares e crescimento e desenvolvimento econômico.
