Abstract

The paper seeks for a possible relationship between the location of industries and the arrival of urban centers of sub-housing in Caxias do Sul as from the 30’s. We started from the analysis of the city by periods and case studies of five nucleuses of high density and the importance of the urban development of the city, close to highways and industrial clusters. It is concluded that the industry is to attract skilled labor, but the location of illegal occupations is not linked only to it, but also according to the area of easy access to services, generally along highways and institutional areas.
