This theoretical essay, of post-structuralist inspiration, aims to denaturalize discourses related to the Social Right to housing in Brazil, placing urban occupations as a social assistance strategy in the analysis. Based on the study of documents, that guide and regulate the Social Right to housing in the country, articulated with authors who discuss the topic, it maps some of the discourses that involve urban policies in Brazil. From this, it is inferred that urban occupations contribute to the operationalization of urban policies to guarantee the Social Right to housing in the country, by organizing, managing and articulating practical and subjective social assistance strategies. These strategies are similar to the values of the National Social Assistance Policy (PNAS) due to the way in which occupations operate.
