Abstract

The purpose of this article was to explore the difficulties experienced by the penitentiary in the exercise of the function in the Mário Agrícola Penitentiary Complex. Consider the particularities that most affect or interfere with prison labor, which may prevent the penitentiary system from showing positive characteristics in its social function. Methodologically, we performed the bi-biographic readings, exploratory and field research where data were collected through semi-structured interviews with the professionals of the area in evidence. The main results pointed out, mainly, by the lack of resources that imply in the general infrastructure, mainly, the functional staff that falls short of the demand for the performance of the penitentiary activities. Difficulties that clutter hard work by its nature. It is concluded that there is the omission and lack of commitment on the part of the government and other public authorities as the main cause of these difficulties that lead to the devaluation of the penitentiary agent and the imperative of criminal recidivism, this conduct affects the whole prison sentence of this country. Therefore, this criminal unit is a unique case, of the many others that operate in this scenario of precariousness that compromises the work of its servants, as well as its mission to reintegrate the prisoner into social life.
