In this text, I analyze the case of missing prisoners from the Alcaçuz Penitentiary (RN), in 2017. To this end, I follow the official communication between the National Mechanism for the Prevention and Combat of Torture (MNPCT) and the state institutions in Rio Grande do Norte (Ministério State public, State Judiciary and Executive branch bodies) that took place between January 2017 and November 2018. I intend to understand how bureaucratic practice disputes the naming of the phenomenon of disappearance of prisoners as a public cause and how it produces the management of disappearances. Inspired by the ethnography of documents, I take documents into account in their time, form, aesthetics and content.Downloads
