The present article aims to address issues related to racism and contribute to the study of anti-racist education, discussing the concept of racism in a didactic manner and its conceptions, namely individualistic, structural, and institutional. A brief contextualization of the Brazilian structure was undertaken, highlighting from the Brazilian slave system and its consequences to the present day for the Afro-Brazilian population. The concept of quilombismo is addressed, providing foundations for thinking about a multiracial and pluricultural society, aiming to bridge the gaps left by a colonial society for this people. A reflection on institutional racism in schools is proposed, pointing out the limited progress in legislation related to this issue and consequently, few changes in the school institution.
