This article aims to describe the problems that exist in the construction of students' identity through a Eurocentric educational and heritage policy. It also aims to discuss how the theme is approached within the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC), observing the concepts of identity, curriculum and affirmative policies. In this sense, this work aimed to highlight the importance of education, with regard to regular teaching and non-formal spaces, specifically the museum space in strengthening the identities of students. In order to achieve the proposed objectives, this work opted for the qualitative, descriptive method in which a documentary analysis of the BNCC was carried out, and also, in field observations at the Museu Histórico de Campos dos Goytacazes/RJ, in order to investigate how it has been cultural diversity within this non-formal space and possible Afro and indigenous roles were addressed and contemplated. This article allowed discussions that highlight how teaching, still endowed with invented traditions, acts to corroborate homogeneity and/or the mutilation of identities.
