Abstract

Understanding, on one hand, the education as a phenomenon that is not restricted to the school, but that is carried out in a process of subjective constitution that is spread throughout society, through different mechanisms and supports, reaching all of the population; and, on another hand, considering billboards as a variation of the educational printouts, since its materiality is configured by the print resources, such as books and newspapers, for example, we seek to establish a discussion around the discourses about education and schooling, having billboards as a physical support. Thus, through a series of billboards that constitutes the documental corpus of the investigation, discourses circulated in the city of Uberlandia between October 2007 and March 2008 are analyzed, registering in the imaginary order of the population determined conceptions of education and schooling. Hence, we highlight that the exposition of billboards as a particular printout of propaganda is not unscathed, since the discourse circulated by them competes for the production of effects of meaning that fallsdirectly upon the urban sociability and framing of cultural conditions that modify the perception of education, or, at least, entersin an order of meanings established by one truth. In this way, it is possible to say that all of the images of education end up paving a path of perception of the school and its role in societyand, in one way or another, instituting truths about education and the access to teaching, forging individual and collective subjectivities.
