The present work, result of an experience report, aims to reflect about the universitary extension as a device of recognition of regional popular culture. In the core of an extensionist project, the knowledge of Gymnastics for all (GPT, in PT) were developed in a critical and reflexive way, giving life to the choreography titled ‘’Do barro à arte’’, which thematized the ceramic production in the ‘’Vale do Jequitinhonha”’. The recognition and the cultural appropriation of the regional culture were made in various forms, in special, by the technical visit that happened in the city of Araçuaí/MG, where, due to the reports of the ceramic manufacturers, we now understand the stories and the way of living of the artisans/artists. Such experiences tainted the body and made the final presentation, enlightening the singularity, the beauty and the power of the ‘’Vale’’ ‘s ceramic, taking to account, foremostly, this rich manifestation of popular culture.
