This study has the objective to reflect on the potential of the Afro-Brazilian religions ethnobotany as a tool to be used for teaching botany, through a theoretical essay that carries out the elaboration of a didactic proposal in this sense. To this end, the article discusses the importance of ethnic-racial issues within science education, in an attempt to value Brazilian education beyond the eurocentric core, in order to understand, in the development of historical and scientific processes, the need for a decolonization process on the periphery of the capital. Thus, the didactic proposal was thought and elaborated, based on the pedagogical approach of the 3 Pedagogical Moments. From the reflections made, the result is an elaboration of a didactic proposal that promotes a critical reflection on ethnic-racial issues and dialogue between popular and scientific knowledge within the teaching-learning process.
