This study investigated the student’s characteristics of color, investment per student, and the ratio of freshmen and graduates of the Federal Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education (RFEPCT, in Portuguese) degree courses. The data were obtained through the Nilo Peçanha Platform and the following parameters were analyzed: “color classification and family income of students”, “current investment per enrollment” and “occupancy rate”. It was observed that Brazilian society is well represented in the context of color in the RFEPCT and the Federal Institute of Education, Science, and Technology of Minas Gerais (IFMG, in Portuguese), with the proportions of each color in balance with those presented by the federal and state of Minas Gerais population. It was also verified that the undergraduate courses at IFMG are presented with proportions of browns and blacks slightly higher than the results of the continuous household sample research of Minas Gerais. As for investment per student, IFMG made greater investments in the last 3 years than the averages of the RFEPCT, at national and state levels, which may be related to the higher rates of conclusions presented by the institution compared with the network as a whole. A worrying reality was confirmed by the study: undergraduate courses, not only from the IFMG but also from the RFEPCT at state and national levels, had a low conclusion rate, close to 20%, which indicates that public management should be more engaged and implement programs that encourage the non-abandonment of these courses, so important for Brazilian education.
