Cuidado de si: exercício de solidão ou prática social?

Resumo

A ética do cuidado de si aparece tardiamente na obra de Michel Foucault como desdobramento de seus célebres estudos sobre o governo dos vivos. Demasiado entediado do espaço territorializado e estratificado de seus estudos sobre o poder e o saber, ele começa a esboçar um novo desenho para a resistência. Aparece, então, o cuidado de si como dispositivo histórico de subjetivação: de um lado, a sociedade greco-romana da Antiguidade Clássica, em sua busca obstinada por autonomia e liberdade; de outro lado, o homem da era cristã, um vigilante que, em troca da salvação de sua alma, deve renunciar às tentações e aos desejos do corpo. Foucault interroga sobre qual ética prevalece hoje, após séculos de domínio cristão, na tentativa de esboçar uma cartografia de nossa contemporaneidade: nossos modos próprios de ser, viver, sentir, servir, consentir e resistir.

Abstract: The ethics of care of the self later appears in the work of Michel Foucault and breakdown of its famous studies on the government of the living. Too bored of space and stratified territorialized of his studies on power and knowledge, he begins to sketch a new design for the resistance. Appears, then, the care of the self as a device of historical subjectivity: on the one hand, society’s Greco-Roman classical antiquity, in his stubborn quest for autonomy and freedom, on the other hand, the man of the Christian era, a watchman that in exchange for the salvation of his soul, must renounce the Temptations and desires of the body. Foucault questioned ethics which prevails today, after centuries of Christian, in na attempt to sketch a map of the present: our own ways of being, live, feel, act, consent and resistance.
