Competencies of the school director for an autonomous and democratic management in public schools: study in basic education in Santa Catarina municipality

This qualitative case study sought to analyze the competencies required for the performance of public school directors of basic education for the development of an autonomous and democratic management. It was carried out with school directors in a municipality in the state of Santa Catarina and the results showed a constraint on the expression of identified competencies, due to the restrictions of the Education Department, the need for preparation for the function and the low participation of the school community.
