Literature is a right that humanizes. It assists in the transformation of subjects. Could she set us free? It is in view of this question that this article aims to build a pedagogical proposal, with a view to the use of the audiobook, through a project to redeem the penalty for reading, with illiterate inmates. For that, we use as theoretical corpus, with regard to the relations of power and domination in prison, Foucault (1978); on education and liberation, Paulo Freire (1970); about the right to literature, Antônio Candido (2022); on illiteracy in Brazil, Braga and Mazzeu (2017); with regard to the act of listening in the pedagogical process, Bajour (2012); regarding Digital Information and Communication Technologies (TDICs), Oliveira (2020), in addition to the laws that support the Remission of Penalty for Reading project. As a contribution to the practice of listening and the pedagogical proposal, we used the audiobook by Daniel Munduruku (2002), Kaba Darebu. This article starts from an experience of the main author, and becomes qualitative and bibliographic for its purpose. The results point to the need to rethink the teaching practice, as ethical professionals, willing to participate in the process of resocialization of people deprived of their liberty. In addition, this investigation points out to us, literature, as a guarantee, can contribute to the lives of detainees.
