Pedagogical supervisor: trainer or controller

This article aims to analyze the function of pedagogical supervision, as a controller or trainer. The research sought to identify the concept and the history of pedagogic supervision function in Brazil. The article also presents, through research with teachers of public schools, the concept that they have about the function of this profession, as well as a reflection on the concepts presented by the authors used as a theoretical basis of the article, linking them with the data obtained through the interviews. The article pointed out that the Pedagogical Advisor is currently serving a lot more bureaucratic functions, leaving aside its role within the school, which is the one as the pedagogical trainer and coordinator of the work of the teachers in the educational practice. The research found that in order to have a quality education, the performance of the educational role of the supervisor is necessary. This article was grounded theoretically in several authors, among them: Rangel (2011; 2001); Almeida and Soares (2010); Urbanetz e Silva (2008); Geglio (2004); Ferreira (2001); Alarcão (2001).
