Forms of election of rectors in Chilean private traditional universities: a research proposal

Abstract

The higher education system, especially universities, have been the subject of recurring analysis, with an emphasis on government structures as a key element in transforming them. This study intends to investigate the form of election of the highest authority in the Chilean Universities and the way in which it exercised the government in its institution. The problem comes in the understanding, first, considering the social, economic and cultural development of the country, second in the training of future professionals, and third, responsibility regards him as "institution" in the formation of citizenship, to purpose of building a more democratic and inclusive society. It is a descriptive, qualitative research documentary, whose design is not experimental, that is done through content analysis, mainly of academics, experts and official documentation from universities and corpus analysis of semi-structured interviews applied to experts. The results are of great importance and constitute a contribution to this emerging field of research, allowing illustrate the current situation of university governments in Chile and the consequences that treatment of its key elements has had on the democratic practice of their communities.
