Alethurgy: rituals of truth that movement in the Military College of Porto Alegre (MCPA) and the Brazilian Olympics of Public Schools Mathematics (BOPSM)

Abstract

This article presents a study of how real rituals are put into operation at the Military College of Porto Alegre (CMPA) and the Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad of the Public Schools (OBMEP), and how they combine and reinforce each other in order to position the students of the CMPA as individuals subjects to the neoliberal rationality, making them competitive and entrepreneurs of themselves.The theoretical contributions that support the investigation come from the field of Mathematical Education, are linked to the theories of Michel Foucault, especially those developed in his works Security, Territory and Population and the Government of the Living, converging to post-structuralist theories. The methodological tactic adopted to analyze the research material was marked by the discourse analysis, treated and discussed by Michel Foucault. The research material covers documents from the CMPA and the official OBMEP website. The analytical exercise carried out on the research material showed that the notions placed in motion in the CMPA and the OBMEP have the approximation of tactics that converge to the principles of the society of control and regulation.

Doutora (2014) pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação da Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos. Mestre em Matemática Aplicada (1998) pelo programa de Pós-Graduação de Matemática Aplicada e Computacional da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul e Graduada (1995) em Licenciatura em Matemática da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria. No curso de Doutorado, seu estudo problematizou táticas e estratégias colocadas em movimento no Colégio Militar de Porto Alegre que constituem sujeitos que se destacam na Olimpíada Brasileira de Matemática das Escolas Públicas. Desenvolve suas atividades investigativas junto ao GIPEMS-Unisinos: Grupo Interinstitucional de Pesquisa em Educação Matemática e Sociedade, registrado no diretório de pesquisas do CNPq. Seu interesse investigativo tem como foco questões da constituição de sujeitos, em sua relação com a educação. Atua como professora de matemática do Ensino Fundamental e Médio no Colégio Militar de Porto Alegre e professora de Cálculo I e II para os cursos de Engenharia, Matemática I e II para o curso de Ciências Econômicas, e Estruturas Algébricas para o curso de Licenciatura em Matemática, da Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos. Atua no curso de Especialização em Educação Matemática, ministrando disciplinas com foco em pesquisa, na Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos.
