Abstract

From a part of a research research that focuses on the initial teacher training for youth and adults called us the attention to the question "Who forms the former?". Since then, we began to listen to our colleagues and perceive the presence of a contrario sensu conceptions to the initial training. Thus, this study aims to understand one of the Gordian knots of adult education circumscribed in the challenge of training of the educator. The qualitative research had as its a locus University of Santa Catarina. We used as an instrument og data generation the interview with three coordinators of undergraduate programs We analyzed the words of the coordinators in the light of the ideas of Soares and Machado, as well as documents. The relevance of this study takes the perspective of subjects poorly investigated. The results indicate that the Gordian knot is made by: informality with which adult education is addressed in undergraduate programs; lack of support for pedagogical practice focused on this modality and the absence of specific knowledge by the trainer. We think it is this last, the main node to be unleashed since there is the playing field in the adult education, and educator, to join in this modality is "taken by surprise", partly by the gaps in their education. We intend to contribute to a discussion that does not end here, but aims to raise ideas that promote an enlargement on the space given to adult education in undergraduate programs at the University.
