Abstract

The article analyzes the importance of a critical education aimed at children and teenagers, addressing the right to health and food safety, based on a conscious consumption, especially in relation to transgenic foods. The research is justified considering the diffusion of genetically modified foods and issues related to the guarantee of the fundamental rights of individuals, including the right to health and food safety. With bibliographical and documentary character, it is based on the studies of Freire (1979), Diniz (2001), Efing (2011), among others. It discusses the positioning of a critical pedagogy, analyzing the genetically modified organisms and their direct interference in the search for full food security, and finally, it correlates the aspects related to the development of a more critical education, as a promoter of healthier habits and more discerning as to the origin and constitution of the food, with a view to promoting health and food safety. The results point to the inclusion of pedagogical proposals that favor the increase of the level of consciousness and criticality of individuals.
