The study was structured based on the on-site analysis of reports, of students, registered in the teachers’ logbooks at the Núcleo de Educação de Jovens e Adultos Agente Penitenciário Jair Fiorin, located in the Penitentiary of Ijuí-RS. The results obtained point to the need to intensify pedagogical practices aimed at students deprived of their liberty. Such actions must be based on the dialogue that punctuates the students’ experiences and experiences as citizens. These shared experiences are constitutive of knowledge and culture, and make learning circulate among the parties involved in the teaching and learning processes. It is possible to understand that formal education in prison space has limitations, but it emerges as a real possibility of reintegrating the subjects involved in society from the so-called popular education.
