Abstract

This article critically evaluates the norms that guide questions about Multiculturalism as a Contemporary Transversal Theme in Basic Education in Brazil. The critical-qualitative analysis followed a hierarchical approach to the rules issued in the country, given the permanence of racial discrimination in society. The results revealed solid foundations for incorporating the topic into educational plans, encompassing its multiple facets and hierarchical strata. However, its effective inclusion still depends to a large extent on the individual initiatives of educational institutions, emphasizing the need to support teacher training to achieve the desired impacts in basic education.
