There is an increase in research that begins to examine what has already been produced on the subject in dissertations and theses of postgraduate programs in the country, aiming to understand the consequences of the new demands of university youth. The guiding problem is the following: what are the impacts and trends that appear in dissertations and theses on career choice and professional insertion of university students, taking into account the last 6 years (2017-2022) and available in the Catalog of Theses and Dissertations of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel – CAPES? The research had a qualitative approach and the methodological procedure in the analytical reflections were carried out through content analysis. The results showed that the trends observed in the Brazilian academic production regarding the choice and professional insertion of university students announce this moment as crucial for the future of the profession, many young people in this phase of the choice experience tensions, doubts, anguish, because they are feelings that lead to issues such as aptitude, talent, gift, financial quest and self-fulfillment. The results also showed the relevance of reflecting some elements of the problem of professional insertion today, noting that getting a job in the job market becomes a major challenge for these young people, especially for those who have already graduated. In this sense, we conclude that it is extremely necessary and relevant for educational institutions to have strategies in their responsibility to offer moments in which they can build maps or inventories in career development during the course, in order to reduce insertion difficulties and the problems that arise. in the area of expertise after graduation.
