The use of the Basic Education Development Index (IDEB) by MEC / INEP as reference indicator to the education quality in Brazil occurs since 2007. The present research aims to analyze the education quality evaluated by the results of the IDEB municipal schools of Araguaína - TO, which offer the initial years of Elementary School. This is a qualitative-quantitative research, which by means of the case study and of bibliographic and documentary research, collected data and information on the results of the IDEB of public elementary schools in the city of Araguaína, located in the northern region of the state of Tocantins. The results of the analysis allow to infer that the municipal education system managed to evolve in this index in the cycles of 2011 to 2017, presenting as a driving force variable the high level of approval rate to the detriment of student learning, which are mostly at the basic level of proficiency.
